What drives me

With over 25 years of experience in communications, marketing and campaigning, I’m old enough to remember the world before the web but young enough at heart to still be obsessed with new technology.

I’ve seen communication tools that used to be out of reach become common-place - while the risks have become greater. Just one wrong click and you’re facing an immediate crisis as well as long-term reputational damage.

I work best with an organisation, person or cause that makes a difference. That has included working for myself, politicians, educational organisations, charities, trade unions and businesses - as well as using my skills voluntarily for a range of issues and organisations.

So I’ve been fortunate to receive a lot of training and to work alongside some really skilled professionals - including designers, directors, photographers, product managers and all manner of techies.

I combine my experience, skills and connections to provide an emotionally intelligent communications solution; one that leaves the world a slightly better place than when I started.

My experience includes:

  • Managing crisis communications - from the mania of the Westminster bubble, to the uncertainty of schools during Covid lockdowns.

  • Creating and implementing the digital marketing strategy for an EdTech company.

  • Setting up CRMs and websites to help organisations track member/customer/stakeholder engagement.

  • Creating a prize-winning, national member-recruitment campaign for a trade union.

  • Running the internal communications function for large organisations, particularly during times of great change.

  • Managing general election and selection campaigns for political candidates.

  • Working with organisations and individuals to influence national policy through lobbying and strategic engagement.

  • Improving the reputation of a ‘requires improvement’ school, helping it move to being over-subscribed for new students.

  • Raising funds for political campaigns and charities, from bids and fundraising to private donations.

  • Working with a partner designer to create a series of inter-linked education brands, from corporate identity and photography through to writing styles.

  • Managing 20+ social media accounts for a multi-academy trust and its schools / teacher-training arm.

  • Working with partner techies to create online systems that reduce administration and save money.
